FAQs

Have a question? We've got the answer! (And if you can't find it here, we'd be happy to speak with you on the phone.)

Are the benefits listed per person or per family?

The benefits are per person, unless stated otherwise.

I am travelling with my wife and children. Can we receive coverage under one plan?

Yes. Our wide variety of insurance products includes coverage for families. The definition of "family" varies from one policy to another, but typically includes spouses and dependent children (those up to the age of 21 and still living at home).

I have an existing medical condition. If I purchase insurance, will it be covered?

Pre-existing medical condition coverage is available through Ingle; however coverage rates and options are dependent on factors such as stability, age, and type of condition.

I'm planning a snowboarding trip to Maine this winter. Will I be covered if I am injured on the slopes?

Injuries or accidents related to leisure sports like snowboarding are usually covered. Exceptions occur if you are a professional athlete, are involved in a professional competition, or if your involvement results in monetary gain. You will not be covered if you are participating in a sport against local authoritative advice.

I am planning a trip, but there is a travel advisory in effect. Can I still receive coverage for my travels?

Most travel insurance plans will have an exclusion on sickness or injury which occurs in a specific country, region, or area for which the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Canadian Government has issued an official travel warning. The travel warning must have come into effect before your departure date, and it must advise travellers to avoid non-essential travel or to avoid all travel to that specific country, region, or area. However, there are some policies that will cover illness or injury, and will only exclude incidents that have been mentioned in the travel advisory (ex: kidnapping, acts of terrorism, violence). If you are travelling to a high-risk destination and want to ensure you have complete coverage, take a look at our Special Riskoptions.

Is pregnancy covered?

Coverage for pregnancy exists for women in their first two trimesters. Most companies will cover non-routine medical expenses up until the end of the 31st week. If you are planning a trip during your last trimester, medical expenses related to your pregnancy will not be covered by any insurance company.

I am travelling to a remote area. What happens if I need to go to the hospital, but it is located in the nearest city, 100 miles away?

Emergency Evacuation coverage is available through most insurance plans; however this benefit but must be arranged and approved by your insurance provider. Emergency Evacuation may include services such as air ambulance, sea rescue, or transportation to your country of residence for continued treatment.

What happens if I have to use my travel insurance? Will I have to pay first?

If you go to a clinic, they may require payment up front. If you pay for any medical services, keep all of your original receipts. These documents are necessary when submitting a claim to get your money back. Hospitals will often bill insurance companies directly; however, you must first contact your insurance provider in order to take advantage of this. Direct billing is usually possible if you are admitted to the hospital, but you may have to pay up front for Emergency Room visits.

Is there an age limit?

We offer insurance plans with no age limit.

What is Trip Cancellation insurance?

Trip Cancellation insurance will refund your travel expenses if you need to cancel your trip before your departure date, provided you cancel for one of the reasons listed in the policy. Reasons typically include illness, injury, or death of you, a family member, or a travelling companion. Most policies specify that you (or the ill or injured party) must see a physician to obtain a letter stating that you are too ill or disabled to travel. You must contact your insurance provider before your scheduled departure in order to be reimbursed.
